Pickard, Meurs, Brophey, Mercier Reassigned *Updated*
While the second round of cuts have yet to be announced officially, Colorado Avalanche prospects Calvin Pickard and Garrett Meurs have been reassigned to their respective teams.
Both players made minor announcements on their Twitter accounts, alerting friends, family and fans of their return. Said Pickard:
Said Meurs:
Pickard will return to the Seattle Thunderbirds, now coached by former Av Steve Konowalchuk and Meurs will be heading back to the Plymouth Whalers.
Both players had good showings at camp and should feel good about how they performed. Pickard has an important year ahead of him as he needs to hone some aspects of his game including – according to Justin Goldman – controlling movement in scramble situations. 5th-round draft pick Meurs, if you haven’t seen our reports, was quite the standout at camp and looks extremely promising. While small, he has great on-ice vision and can make plays and take hits like the best of them. Look for him to bulk up and really stand out next season.
*The Avalanche just announced the above reassignments along with that of Evan Brophey and Justin Mercier.*
Pre-season lineup
Colorado released the lineups for both the Avalanche and the St. Louis Blues ahead of tonight’s game. Should be a good showing.
If you haven’t seen it already, we’re giving away a pair of tickets to tonight’s game.
What do you think?
